Why Mikey’s Way?

All proceeds from the 12 Days of Christmas Raffle benefit The Mikey’s Way Foundation. Mikey Friedman was a 15-year-old freshman in high school when he was diagnosed with a rare and very aggressive form of cancer. Throughout his battle, Mikey learned how to use portable electronics to divert his attention from his illness and stay connected with his family, friends, and school during his extended hospital stays. When he was granted a “wish” from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Mikey decided to use it to help other sick children in desperate need of a way to escape the fear, boredom, and isolation of their hospital beds. Instead of using his wish on himself, Mikey used it to start the Mikey’s Way Foundation and deliver interactive, handheld video games and electronics to those less fortunate than him. Since its inception in late 2005, the Mikey’s Way Foundation has served over 8,000 children all over the country. Before Mikey Friedman passed away in October of 2008 at the early age of 19, he was able to experience the power of his Foundation by attending 17 Mikey’s Way Days.

Today, the Mikey’s Way Foundation serves children locally at Roswell Park Cancer Institute and John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital. All the electronics donated to children through the Foundation are equipped with wi-fi and videoconferencing capabilities so kids can connect to family, friends, and school during their treatment.
